FS – UNEP

UNEP Centre for Sustainable Energy Finance: Clean energy is a sector that is often unfamiliar to local banks and so is associated with high perceived risks and inappropriate financial structures. To address this challenge, UNEP was able to draw upon its own technical experts as well as those of the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management (FSFM).

FSFM is the UNEP Collaborating Centre for Climate and Sustainable Energy Finance, which focuses on finance issues in the specific areas of sustainable energy and climate change.  The support provided by FSFM was carefully managed, with an appropriate funding allocation, and was focused to ensure the greatest impact – the energy activities were directed exclusively towards the consideration of financing mechanisms for renewable energy and energy efficiency.

UNEP was therefore able to use the FSFM experience of over 300 finance sector technical assistance projects in more than 60 countries worldwide.
